Mikky Ekko and Interstellar

Today I have some music for you by a solo artist who is possibly one of my favorite singers. Mikky Ekko has a voice that is unlike anyone else and a style that is something so indescribably beautiful. Mikky Ekko sings with passion and emotion that is heard in every word. Everything about his music is so spectacular because of how wonderfully moving it is. The thing about Mikky Ekko is that he is able to pull at the heartstrings and emotions that we don't necessarily like addressing or talking about or experiencing. He knows how to write music and make songs that completely understands us. Every person will be able to relate to at least one of his songs because the subject matter is something that we all understand and experience in our lifetimes. Mikky Ekko is the kind of artist who takes every part of his music seriously. With this song, the lyrics are some of the most moving and beautiful and creatively sweet that I have heard. He knows how to make plays on words, reference things that you wouldn't normally think about, and just change the way we understand the string of words. The words are the kind that flow smoothly, like water, and give the song a body from which the rest falls into place. Each word was chosen so carefully to make this a song that is more than just a spectral melody. The words are what gives this song so much power and beauty. The words are cleverly done so that when you do pay attention, you feel the uncertainty and unpredictability that comes with the course of life. The musicality of this song is absolutely heart wrenching. This piano ballad is one that showcases the talent that Mikky Ekko has as a singer and musician. The music for this album was written by him, and the dark nature of this specific piece is one that compliments the softer and sweeter voice of Mikky Ekko. The music in this song is more minimal than a lot of other solo artists, but I prefer it this way. When the music is simpler, like it is in this song, we get more of a taste of the real artist. We see more of the reality and truth behind the songs, and Mikky Ekko's work leaves the song infused with passion and emotion and true feeling. There are two distinct moments when the music in this song includes something that could be considered almost creepy, but because Mikky Ekko uses these screech sounds in a way that works, it makes the song more mysterious rather than something almost scary. Mikky Ekko has this really nice way of throwing this smooth R&B percussion sound to his music. Honestly, I think the heavy percussion adds an even greater melancholy to the song and album as a whole. It makes the song feel weighty with the heaviness of a drum beat, accompanied only by a piano and some keyboards/synthesizers. Mikky Ekko has this incredibly magical way of making his music and the way he is able to belt out some verses and then come back down to a gentle falsetto is something that I cannot fathom and can't help but appreciate. This song has such raw beauty to it that sometimes I cannot give an explanation that does the song justice.  This song is so hauntingly majestic and is an absolutely wrenching track and the album in its entirety is something that I could listen to on repeat. Today's instrumental song is from the Interstellar movie score. Now we all know that Hans Zimmer is an absolute genius, but sometimes you are struck by something that just surpasses the normal level of genius. This is one of those songs that makes you fall in love with Hans Zimmer all over again. Hans Zimmer is a brilliant composer and as time goes on, he has only become greater. This score in particular is one that has such a roller coaster of emotions and musical sounds that make you feel the anticipation and surprise and suspense and complete wonder that is this movie and space. This composition in particular has this incredible crescendo of sound that hits you and sweeps you off your feet. It is one of the greatest feelings to have. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
