Imagine Dragons and How To Train Your Dragon 2

It has been an extremely long time since I have posted anything related to alternative rock and just plain good rock in general. So today, I have some music for you by a band that everyone seems to love. Imagine Dragons is a band that has delivered time and time again with singles and albums that we can listen to over again. This song in particular is off their latest album, a beautiful and spectacular new album that is absolutely powerful. This album sounds very much like Imagine Dragons' older work, but is still quite and evolutionary piece of work. There is more synth work involved with this album, and they took a little bit more of a transcendent path with this album. The one thing that always makes Imagine Dragons stand out is the ability they have to make a song have a darker beginning, but then turn it into something bright and wonderful and soul filling when the chorus hits. This is definitely one of those songs.  It is the kind of song that allows you to become part of the world around you, conjoin with the great feelings that you get from nature, and really feel like a part of the universe. This is the kind of song that dives deep to the soul to make you see and feel beyond the everyday ups and downs. This song has some intricate guitar work which is the driving factor behind that depth that we love to hear. It is what creates not only filler for the song, but also gives it the tone and melody that we want. The guitar work fills the entirety of the song and along with the vocals, creates many layers that all come together. Another source of profundity with this song is in the lyrical message. There is a reason that Imagine Dragons starts this song with a darker kind of atmosphere. This is a song about a problem that everyone faces. This is a song about the time in our lives when we are filled with such self-loathing and focuses on overcoming personal adversity. It talks about how these things can makes us feel like we are living a life full of regrets. But by the end of the song, we come to the realization that nothing in life should be regretted. We all live and are born in this freedom to be who we are, who we want to be. I love the juxtaposition this song offers. The instrumentation and overall tonality of the this song is one that is bright and peppy and upbeat. But we then are then pushed into these darker lyrics, lyrics that makes us want to reflect on ourselves and pull ourselves out of regrets. The vocals in this song fall under a wider range than what we are used to with Imagine Dragons. The song opens up with tender falsettos that still work with the upbeat melody this song has. We are then transported back due to the 80's styled synth rhythm and harmonies. The chorus brings us back to that powerful but soft falsetto, and eventually, we get to this booming roar of drums and singing and complete beauty. All of this culminates into this beautiful message of changing our mindset. Changing our minds into something more positive and open. I am absolutely in love with this song and it is probably my favorite off the album. Imagine Dragons is the kind of band that can produce lighter and happier sounds while still maintaining lyrical volume, and this is why Imagine Dragons will continue to be a band that we connect to and fall in love with over and over again. Today's instrumental song is from the movie How To Train Your Dragon 2. I have to say, out of all the recent animated movies, the How To Train Your Dragon movies are my favorite. They are incredibly well produced, funny, charismatic, and simply good. This composition in particular is one that captures the darker moments and happier ones within the movie. For those of you who have seen this movie, this title will be able to tell you which scene this piece is used in. This is a moment that begins very dark and ominous, but then turns into something absolutely incredible. I highly recommend watching this movie if you have the opportunity. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
