Coldplay and Cloud Atlas

Today I have a special kind of song for you. This song is for those days where the whole world seems to be against you. This is a song for the days that you feel so completely alone. This is a song for the days when you feel the scars and aches and pains and holes left in your heart. This is a song for the days when you feel lower than you ever have. This is a song for us, the ones who feel broken. The ones who go through so many trials in life, whether it be physical, emotional, or you mental. Coldplay has been a band that has been able to understand my thoughts and feelings. Through the roughest times, there has always been one song by Coldplay that has been able to push me forward. This song is one of their most famous and I know why. Because it is for the lost ones. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Cloud Atlas. I have posted a few of the pieces from this score in the past, but this is one of the greatest compositions I have had the privilege of hearing. Ever. This score, this sextet is one of the most beautiful compositions I have heard in my life. Each movement has this raw emotion and passion and feeling. Each motif is something that makes us truly feel. It creates this restlessness within us. And if you are carrying a restlessness in your heart, you are alive. Today's song is a really cool one out of South Africa by the band Kongos. There are so many awesome things happening in this song. For example the first sounds you hear is this really sick accordion work, and yes, these guys made the accordion look even cooler than any other musician out there has. I love the way they use the accordion and the tone of it. And then you hit the chorus which has these really strong vocals and you get the feel from the multiple voices with these sweet guitar licks and such a loud presence with the electric guitar. This song just kicks some major ass! Today's song is by the Beastie Boys, and is one of my favorite songs by them. Ima Robot and Tame Impala

Today I have a song for you by the band known as Ima Robot. Many of you will recognize this song because it is used in the show Suits. Disclaimer, Suits is a wonderfully fantastic show and I highly recommend you go watch it. Anyway, this song has a really cool and suave feel to it. It has that artsy urban grunge to it which I really like. It is a different way of performing rock music and takes you back to the 90's style of music. This song has a really cool charm to it because a lot of the song falls on the support of the bass guitar over the drums. The bass guitar serves as a secondary percussion to the rest of the instrumentals. It is actually kind of awesome how simple the instruments are in this song because when you bring the together you hear a really sick song. The main instruments are of course the bass guitar, tambourine, drums, and keyboard. Nothing else makes an appearance and I like it that way. The music in this song is so structured but so laid back at the same time.

Zayn Malik and Interstellar

Today I wanted to give a shout out to an artist who is both very famous and very underground. Most people know him as Zayn Malik, that guy who was in One Direction but left the band. So a little background, Zayn Malik was one of the five members of the famous boy band, One Direction. His departure from the band was all over the news last year, and I wont' lie, I felt bad for him. Not because he left the band, but because of what that meant for him in the public eye. It marked him as a huge target for papparzi and press, and I just feel so bad for him because he had to live in that public eye for so long. Which is one of the reasons why he wanted to leave. To live his life more quietly. So that of course, is a consequence of his level of fame. But on the other hand, we have his more quiet and surprising side.
