George Ezra and The Walking Dead
Today I have music for you by an up and coming artist out of the UK. George Ezra is an artist who delivers very different kinds of folk and blues music. His specific style or genre is actually very hard to define. It is full of complicated mixes of blues, rock, folk, soul, etc. However, his music as a whole is utterly recognizable. In his debut album, Wanted on Voyage, George Ezra explores the entire spectrum of folk music, from acoustic folk rock to classic Western sounds. For an artist who is just 21 years old, George Ezra has an extremely mature voice that he knows how to control. His voice is rusty and gravelly and rough around the edges, but there is a charm there that captures you and keeps you held in awe. George Ezra is one of the most distinctive sounding singer in the world of blue-eyed soul. What is special about this voice is the capability of belting out the notes and then switching to something softer, soothing, and even a little bit intimate. Each song tends to take on more of one aspect over another, but George Ezra is still capable of mixing the two within the same song to give it some dynamism and give it more of an emotional roller coaster effect. You fly with the highs of the soaring and powerful notes, and settle back down to Earth and comfort with the gentler vocals. And then George Ezra throws you a curve ball and gives you a song that is so incredibly groovy yet still has the sound of a folk song. Honestly, I think this entire album is absolutely brilliant. Each song sounds completely original and no two songs sound the same. George Ezra is not necessarily radio material, but his music is something I could listen to everyday. There is something so human about his music, something that really brings us down to the ground and back to the present. The splendid guitar work is enough to kind of pull our heads out of the clouds and really see the world and sharpen its perfections. Today's song is one of those songs. This is a song that takes you on that roller coaster but you also end the song on a small glimmer of hope. This is definitely one of the more eerie and haunting kind of songs, but the way George Ezra delivers the song gives it a special kind of beauty. At the end of the song, you emerge with a different lens. For moments after the song finishes, you do see the world slightly differently. Some of you may see it darker, some may see it with sharpened focus on details of the world, and others (like me) see the world with sunset hue, but in a content manner. When I hear this song, I feel the need to be walking toward a sunset, just watching the sky change colors, and just be. It can be so hard to be in the moment, but this song makes me aware of the world around me as if I were alone. Solitude amid a sea of people. George Ezra truly is one of the best breakout artists of the year and I simply cannot wait to hear what is to come! Today's instrumental song is from the television show The Walking Dead. Now I have to say, I don't religiously and actively follow the show, but the episodes I have seen are pretty darn cool! A show as popular as this needs a really good soundtrack to go with it. And boy did this show not disappoint. This specific piece is probably my favorite song from the score. The ethereal beauty of this song kind of blows you away in the greatest way possible. There is so much depth and movement to this piece despite its simplicity, and the way it pulls at your emotions is absolutely beautiful. There are certain emotions and feelings and thoughts that are provoked when listening to music, and this piece just makes everything feel blissful. It feels as if everything in the world has slowed down, and you can enjoy that moment of really taking a look at what is around you, from the way a birds wings move to the way a water droplet looks on a rose petal. It is pieces like this that take you that higher state of mind and being and are so indescribable. But once you feel it, you completely understand. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
