Beck and Coldplay
Today was one of the biggest award shows of the year- The Grammys. For those of you who don't know, this award show is the biggest music award show in America and features performances from a lot of incredible artists from a spectrum of genres. Now I do have to say that I have my own opinions about The Grammys. For me, lately The Grammys have been more of a celebration of who has the most popular songs on the radio rather than who wrote or composed or produced something that is a masterpiece. That being said, I am quite happy that Beck won quite a few awards this evening because he is an absolutely phenomenal artist and is one of the best folk artists out there right now. However, I am very disappointed that Ed Sheeran did not win any Grammys tonight even though I think he deserves one. But then again, a lot of artists who desereve these honors don't get them. I mean, look at Leonardo di Caprio! I could go on and on about this subject, so let us focus on what music was there for the Grammys. This week's music is going to be dedicated to Grammy nominated artist who don't fall in the generic categories. Today's first song is by an artist who won quite a few Grammy awards this year. Beck, like I mentioned earlier, is one of the leading folk artists of the time. This song was nominated for best rock performance. This song is lush and melodic, with a melody that ebbs and flows beautifully. A lot of people have not heard of Beck, which is honestly a real shame, but this song is a great one for people to be introduced to Beck. It is lively and bright and is quite the captivating composition. Today's second song is from Coldplay's newest album. This album was nominated for best pop vocal album. I have to say, this might be my favorite album by Coldplay to date. It is very hard to dislike Coldplay, and equally as hard trying to figure out which album or song is the best. But Ghost Stories stood out to me in such a different way. This album shows a complete vulnerability which we have not heard from Coldplay. In this album, the band bares itself to the world and strips down to the deepest emotions and desires of the heart and soul. It leaves the grandiosity of the past and gives us something very intimate. This album was so beautifully composed and produced and every song is as compelling as the next. This album is such a bittersweet story that ends on this sad note of hope that touches the heart and soul. The darkness and melancholy that weaves through the album is offset by the rays of hope and determination and optimism for the future. I love this album so incredibly much and am so glad that it was nominated. I hope you enjoy the musc and please feel free to comment!
