Arctic Monkeys and 300
Today I have music for you by the band Arctic Monkeys. What I really love about the Arctic Monkeys is that their music relies so heavily on the use of percussion and rhythmic beats. When you listen to their music, most of the music is built around the drums and bass guitar. These two instruments are in charge of really laying the foundation for the song, the basis of the song. The Arctic Monkeys is one of the only bands out there that really really utilizes the percussion side of music. From different drums to rhythmic guitars to tambourines, the Arctic Monkeys always do an incredible job of making their music sound so distinct through these instruments. The Arctic Monkeys is actually one of the most unique bands I have ever heard. Whenever I hear their music I can automatically tell that it is them. The distinct nature of the instrumentation coupled with the vocals makes this band stand out. Alex Turner has a one of a kind voice. His voice has this really awesome tone to it because it is kind of deep and he has this distinct accent. That accent is actually one of the things that really defines this band because the style of music is perfectly suited to his voice and vice versa. Alex Turner is also able to deliver rapid lyrics as well which is another characteristic that seems to suit the Arctic Monkeys. But along with the awesome bass and beats, the incredible voice, and suave lyrics, we get some sick guitar work. Although the guitar work is usually minimal, there are some wicked guitar solos in their music. This song has an awesome guitar solo and it still maintains that dark and mysterious sound that only the Arctic Monkeys can pull off. It is a combination of all these things which makes it incredibly hard to pinpoint exactly where the Arctic Monkeys fall on the genre scale. There is something modern but also really vintage about this band and the way they carry themselves. When you take a look at their pictures you can see that vintage style with a modern twist. You can hear that 1960's sound in their music and honestly I really love that. This band is just so cool because they explore so many different topics and always come back to that idea of juxtaposing vintage sounds and modern themes. These guys are just wicked awesome. Today's instrumental song is from the movie 300. This song is really cool because the drum beats take precedence over everything. The composer Tyler Bates is a genius when it comes to creating intense music like this. He definitely takes advantage of modern advancements in music and technology to make these songs sound epic. He is also in charge of composing the intense music you hear in video games and other movies like this. Total genius in my opinion. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
