The Stranger Family and Imran Khan

Today I have music for you that is a really cool mix of Indian and American music. This song has a pretty sick combination of sounds because it has a really R& beat to it and it isn't a beat that over does that beat. For a lot of people, this song will seem very different, especially because this song talks a lot about hardships that people of color face. But I think The Stranger Family carries this message in a really great way because not only is the song catchy, but the lyrics can be related to. I am also a huge fan of the way the song was performed. The song opens up with Hindi/Panjabi which I think is pretty cool. It kind of establishes the premise of the song and catches you more off guard when the English starts. The one thing about this song is that The Stranger Family really knows how to rap the Panjabi words. You don't normally hear rap music from India or in an Indian language because we are all about the Bollywood life. Not only is this completely different in comparison to Bollywood, but it is also something that is different for the whole world. Now you can see pockets of Indian rap music in the European countries, especially England and I am so happy that Indian rap is gaining traction. It is so unique compared to what we hear in rap today and this song has all the things that people look for in a good rap song. It has a catchy beat, smooth lyrics, and a thug feel to it as well. The Stranger Family is not a huge group right now but I am hoping that they are able to come more to the forefront because they are good. Even if you don't understand the foreign lyrics, there is still enough that you can grasp from the English and from the video. It is hard to find good Indian music outside what Bollywood provides, but The Stranger Family is one of those select few who are also really good. Today's instrumental song is by a man named Imran Khan and he is extremely famous in the world of Indian music. I am going to be totally honest, he is great at mixing songs and recording them but is not necessarily the best live. However, this song is really good and got to be very popular in both Eastern and Western music scenes. Imran Khan has some really good music outside of this one so feel free to check it out! Today's song is a really cool one out of South Africa by the band Kongos. There are so many awesome things happening in this song. For example the first sounds you hear is this really sick accordion work, and yes, these guys made the accordion look even cooler than any other musician out there has. I love the way they use the accordion and the tone of it. And then you hit the chorus which has these really strong vocals and you get the feel from the multiple voices with these sweet guitar licks and such a loud presence with the electric guitar. This song just kicks some major ass! Today's song is by the Beastie Boys, and is one of my favorite songs by them. Ima Robot and Tame Impala

Today I have a song for you by the band known as Ima Robot. Many of you will recognize this song because it is used in the show Suits. Disclaimer, Suits is a wonderfully fantastic show and I highly recommend you go watch it. Anyway, this song has a really cool and suave feel to it. It has that artsy urban grunge to it which I really like. It is a different way of performing rock music and takes you back to the 90's style of music. This song has a really cool charm to it because a lot of the song falls on the support of the bass guitar over the drums. The bass guitar serves as a secondary percussion to the rest of the instrumentals. It is actually kind of awesome how simple the instruments are in this song because when you bring the together you hear a really sick song. The main instruments are of course the bass guitar, tambourine, drums, and keyboard. Nothing else makes an appearance and I like it that way. The music in this song is so structured but so laid back at the same time.

Zayn Malik and Interstellar

Today I wanted to give a shout out to an artist who is both very famous and very underground. Most people know him as Zayn Malik, that guy who was in One Direction but left the band. So a little background, Zayn Malik was one of the five members of the famous boy band, One Direction. His departure from the band was all over the news last year, and I wont' lie, I felt bad for him. Not because he left the band, but because of what that meant for him in the public eye. It marked him as a huge target for papparzi and press, and I just feel so bad for him because he had to live in that public eye for so long. Which is one of the reasons why he wanted to leave. To live his life more quietly. So that of course, is a consequence of his level of fame. But on the other hand, we have his more quiet and surprising side.
