Union J and Austin Mahone
Today I have music for you today by the English boy band known as Union J. One of the great things about the UK is their creation of boy bands that are actually good. A lot of American boy bands are okay and a couple really stand out, but English boy bands are all simply fantastic. They have such a wide range of musical styles, from the pop sound of One Direction to the electronic sound that Union J brings in this song. This is the first song I had ever heard by Union J and I am damn glad this is the first taste I got of their music. This song has everything going for it! This song has the sound of an EDM song which of course is a huge plus. But this song is like one of those really awesome songs that focus on making a great combination of pop, electronic, and soul. This song opens up with a beautiful piano solo which then gives way to the first verse. But even through the first verse, all we get is piano. There is no electronic additions, just the keyboard and the beautiful voices of Union J. This actually brings me to the next point. These four have amazing vocals! None of them have a rocky tone to their voice, but for a band like this, it wouldn't suit them. What they do have is extremely smooth vocals with a tinge of a deeper tone to it. And of course, we cannot exclude the simple beautiful falsetto. It can be pretty hard for guys to have a falsetto, let alone a good one. But this song has incredible falsetto use and the chorus actually sounds so much better with this falsetto. For some reason, the vocals in this song remind me of Matthew Koma. The way both groups have a very smooth voice and slightly higher pitch makes me think of songs that are done by some big names in the electronic world. This song clearly has electronic influences but not too much to the point where the song loses the touch with vocals and in turn, loses touch with the soul of the song and connection to the audience. As cheesy as love songs are today, a part of me can't help but really love the lyrics of this song. There is a poetic influence to the song and symbolism, but there is something so very true to the words of the chorus. Finding the right person really is a hard task but once you do find them, everything seems to become easy. Normally I don't post music videos, but this one is a video that I really enjoyed. It isn't something you would expect from a song like this but I love this video a lot. Union J is a band that I am definitely going to keep an eye on because there is a lot of potential there and their music is great. Now today's second song is by another artist who is very talented and needs to stick to singing songs that showcase his gorgeous voice. Austin Mahone is a young guy but has an incredibly beautiful voice and he really knows how to use it. Now the rub with this second song is that it actually came first before Union J recorded their version. That's right, this is the same song. There has been quite the debate as to which artist sings it better, but I think both of them sound very similar and each version offers something different. In this case, I think Austin Mahone brings a stronger falsetto to the table both in person and in the recording. What do you think? Which artist sings the song better? I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
