Matt Cardle and Coldplay

Today I have music for you by the singer Matt Cardle. Some of you may know him as the winner of the X Factor UK, and for good reason! Matt Cardle has a voice that personifies emotion and it is a voice that washes feeling over you when you listen. Something that makes Matt Cardle stand out is the range of his voice. In this song we get a really good sampling of his upper range. He is able to sing notes that are usually hard for male vocalists to reach and something about the way that he can reach those notes with ease is very appealing. The high notes don't have a screech or a scratch to them but flow like water and have a very nice smoothness. There is a softness to those notes but there is still substance there. This song has a very heartfelt sound to it but also has this maturity to it that makes it passionate and vulnerable at the same time. This song has an almost triumphant sound to it which adds this sense of happiness and warmth to the soul. Matt Cardle has a phenomenally strong voice which he tempers down when the song requires an emotional feel, but when the song is meant to course with energy, his voice takes on that full strength and you can tell that it is a voice that comes from deep within. Many singers are capable of singing high and singing loudly, but it is becoming rarer to hear a singer who sings from the depths of themselves and their soul. Another incredible thing about this song is that pretty much everything is performed by him. The singing is obviously him, but a lot of the instrumentation is also his work. Being able to sing and play the instruments really gives an artist complete freedom over their work and by doing this, I think we get a better understanding of the artist. The music is theirs entirely. Every drum beat, every guitar strum, every shake of the tambourine is part of the essence of them and this gives us a beautiful view into the thoughts and feelings of the artist. Matt Cardle also wrote the song and I believe it is very safe to say that this is a projection of himself and his heart. When everything is put together in this song, I am able to understand his need to be with the one he loves. She may not be with him anymore but that doesn't stop him from continuing to love her. This is a message about what love is to him and what being love means. There is a sad sweetness to this song yet the music itself is very uplifting, as if saying that through bad times we always can come out victorious. Today's instrumental song is from Coldplay's last album. When I first heard the Matt Cardle song I was imediately reminded of this song. The way both of them sound triumphant and the ability to make something feel so energetic and inspiring is what really draws the listener in. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
