Big Data and Fight Club

Today I have an extremely catchy song for you by the group known as Big Data. This song does not have your typical rock sound to it. There are elements of some chillstep and indie to it that moves the song from being straight rock. There is this really nice retro feel to this song. I think that might have to do with the heavy bass guitar use, but then again, the instrumentation of this song goes in so many different directions that it could be a multitude of things. I think the first thing that struck me when I heard this song was the disparity between the bass guitar opening and the higher pitched voice we hear. When I first heard this, I definitely expected a gruffer voice, maybe even a little Nirvana style. But instead we got this awesome indie rock voice which I think sounds really great! These vocals are pretty much perfect because they are able to capture that rock feel while also maintaining a mysterious nature. This song has something that really does feel like we are going back and pulling out that old style grunge, which is something I am completely okay with! They way that grungier and almost dirtier sound fits in with the synths is really quite spectacular. One of things that I am a huge fan of is the percussion. Of course there is the conventional drum set of every band, but in the background there is another type of drum that they bang on. I cannot place the name of that type of drum, but I do know that the first thing I thought of when hearing that background drum was Robert DeLong. If you ever listen to his songs, the same drum is used. Whatever kind of drum it is, I like it! It adds something different and even a little wild to the song. I mean, this could have been your typical, run of the mill mellow rock song. But all these little pieces added together changed the entirety of this song. The unique vocals, the synth work, and the percussion all brought one little piece of another sound and combined to make something entirely different. I really enjoy this song because it is something you can listen to at anytime. At times, there is something almost sexy about the way the chorus sounds and at other times this is just an awesome song to just chill out and relax to. I recommend going to listen to some of their other music because it seems like it could be just as good! Today's instrumental song is from the movie. This is an incredibly iconic movie.I mean everyone knows the first rule about fight club is to not talk about fight club. Besides that line, one of the reasons this movie has that classic status to it is that it has a pretty boss score. This movie has a score that is a reflection of the societal views of the street life and the thug life at the time. When you have the right music, all the scenes seem to have a greater impact. It has the older feel of the time to it and to the way the instruments are used in the composition. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
