Timeflies and Axwell

Today I have music for you by a duo known as Timeflies. These guys are newer to the scene but are really starting to gain momentum. I have to say, for being around for only a few years, the quality of music that they produce is quite phenomenal. There has to be a little bit of musical genius behind this for it to become a song that has reached very high levels of popularity. But the funny thing is, no matter how many times this song has been listened to, it feels as if no one knows who Timeflies is. I think that is a driving factor in my wanting to talk about this song because it is extremely awesome, yet there is a vast majority of people who are in the dark about the song and the duo itself. Breaking down the song into pieces, there are influences from a few different genres. There is clearly an electronic influence seeing as how all the "instrumentation" is all computers and synths. But there is also a definite presence of pop in this song with the way the lyrics are, how the vocals sound, and the application of a rap verse. Part of me believes the melody is also a bit more on the pop side, but I also am keeping in mind that a house or trance song would have a melody that falls alongside this melody. I also hear a slight influence of rock in this song. Or at least guitar use. That high pitched plucking sounds like the extreme upper part of the guitar. Even with my cello, there is a point where the strings bend slightly and reach extremely high pitches. However, this is also an electronic part to the song. They don't actually use a guitar, but more of a popping sound. This song does use drums which is nice instead of relying solely on the bass that electronic music usually has. The vocals in this song are really wicked! The vocals are similar to ones that you would hear from house, progressive, and trance songs. It has that exciting energy and vivacity running through it while also taking on the slight accent of a member of a boy band. So, it has charm, strength, and a smooth tonality to it that really fits a song that makes you feel good and alive. Now the rapping is pretty darn decent as well. This song does a really good job of incorporationg the rap verses into the song in a way that doesn't interrupt the momentum of the song. I do have to say, I would have liked it a little better if they had kept the original beat of the song instead of halving it during the rap verse. This song is very catchy when you add all of these elements together and is a great one to just bounce around to. Today's instrumental song is by Axwell who is one of the most incredible DJ's in the world. This song has that same kind of energy as the first song. It is a brighter energy that speaks to more fun rather than intensity. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
