Hurts and Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part II
It has been a very long time since I have posted a song by this duo. Hurts is one of my favorite musician groups. There is something very distinct about all of their songs. Even when the message is something happy or romantic, there is this melancholic sound that drips over everything. It is very interesting to hear that because many artists make songs that reflect one major emotion, one that connects to the song the most. But what Hurts does is reflect the range of emotions that we feel all the time. When things are jovial and great, there can still be a twinge of sadness we feel. When things are really bad, there is a chance at hope. This band so aptly describes the human condition in both their music and lyrics. This song in particular explores the desire to be in love and fall in love and want that elation that only being in love can bring. This song has a phenomenal instrumental sound to it. There is the normal synth sound that accompanies Hurts and that subtle gospel sound to it. But there is a little bit more rock to this song than normal. There is a heavier string presence in this song and it makes something unique out of this song. Hurts has this style in which a lot relies on the drums and synth to make the sounds they like. But this song really incorporates the violin and viola to make this song grander and largess towards the end. The entirety of the song builds up to a climax which is standard structure, but the fact that hurts does it with orchestral instruments is mind blowing. Most groups today don't keep ties to their orchestral roots, but this group deftly folds the strings into their music so that there is a modern take on classical instruments. This song also uses a piano which I found to be very beautiful and the strings combined with the piano are what give this song the melancholic overtone. But the keyboards, drum, bass, and lyrics are what give this song the hopeful and happier vibe to it. Another thing that I love about this band is how incredible the vocals sound. They have the ability to sound energetic yet the manner in which most songs are sung is with a powerful and sad voice. There is a strength to the vocals and a certain beauty to this voice. Over time I have been exposed to so many different styles and voices, but Hurts has one of the most beautiful vocals I have heard. Theo Hutchcraft has a voice that can be both dramatic and elegant and that is something so different and rare. Each line and every verse are delivered with feeling and purpose, but the words speak for themselves. There is a calm to the way he sings yet the lyrics say everything there is to say. This song is great and the band is truly amazing. Today's instrumental song comes from the movie Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. As always, an epic beyond epic score. My favorite part starts around 3:35. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
