Melanie Martinez and Edward Scissorhands

Image
Today I have some eclectic music for you by the artist known as Melanie Martinez. I had no idea that she was a contestant on the X-Factor! It is kind of incredible to see how different her sound is compared to other X-Factor contestants. Melanie Martinez has such an original and creative sound and look to her, something I can really appreciate! I think a great way to describe Melanie Martinez is surrealist flow. Her music doesn't necessarily have a very "set in stone" structure. While her songs do have a specific pattern they follow, the structure of those patterns allows for a lot of wiggle room. Her music has a dark and dream-like feel to them, painting pictures of scenes out of a Tim Burton film. Her music is almost jarring, enough so so that the tunes stick in your head for a long while afterwards. There is a sense of having pop tendencies to the songs, but that theatricality her songs have make it an absolute masterpiece. Added to that is the lyrics she writes and si...

James Arthur and The Green Mile

Today I have some music for you by an artist that I fell in love with over YouTube. This is a guy who not only composes his own music, but is also able to create such incredible covers that they sound like original pieces by him. James Arthur won the X-Factor a few years ago, and I have seen so much progress in the way he sings since then. One of the things I love about his voice is how he is able to alternate between being raspier with a more soothing and vulnerable sound. And being able to effortlessly switch between the two kinds of vocals creates this beauty in the music that cannot be put into words. I can say though, that this is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard in a long time, and this is most definitely my favorite song by James Arthur. This song has a wonderful back forth between James Arthur and one of the members of Chasing Grace. There is something a little mystical and magical about this song. I think it comes from the way the background instrumentals sound. Th...

Bombay Bicycle Club and Dallas Buyers Club

Image
Today's song is a really cute song by the band Bombay Bicycle Club. Everything about this song is enjoyable and calming. I love the slightly raspy vocals and soft guitar strumming. It adds such a cute element to the song and makes it so entrancing. This is one of those songs that you can listen to anytime, whether the sun is shining or its raining, with someone or not. This is all just kind of perfect! Today's instrumental song comes from the incredibly phenomenal movie, Dallas Buyers Club. I can't even begin to describe how good this movie was. There are so many messages in this movie, and the way it was produced makes sure that every scene had its place and an important role to the movie. Absolutely stunning! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Coldplay and Mark Ronson

Today I have a very new song for you, one that is probably sweeping the globe because of who created the song. We all know and love this band dearly. This is a band that has been there for us for over 10 years, a band that has made us cry and feel at home and get to that special place. This is a band that I always turn to when it is raining or I'm feeling down. It is also a band that I know I can listen to when I want something happy and inspiring and something that takes me to this other state of being. This band is one that will always be my favorite, even if they may be retiring soon. Coldplay is a band that has spoken to everyone, a band that has appealed to all audiences and all kinds of music listeners. And guess what, they dropped a new single! This song is unlike any of the other sounds Coldplay has given us. And that is one of the things I adore about Coldplay. Their sound is constantly evolving. Every album has a different musical theme and style. Ghost Stories was a dark...

Dmitri Vegas & Like Mike and Firebeatz

Image
Today I have a really interesting remix for you today, including the likes of Dmitri Vegas, Like Mike, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Apparently there is a way to make the Chili Peppers sound even cooler than they already do. The transition is pretty good, not as smooth as I would have hoped, but still pretty sweet. To be completely honest though, these guys make up for it with the wicked main lines.  And the overall drop, beat, and melody of this remix is pretty darn sick. Today's instrumental song is by the artist known as Firebeatz. This song has a phenomenal drop to it. There is the element of bad assery behind this song and you can really feel it course through the veins and fill you with this intense energy. And this feeling is so good because for me personally, it makes me feel like doing something wild. It also kind of reminds me of something that could be used for a super fight scene, but that's just me. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Akdong Musician and Cloud Atlas

Image
Today I have some music for you that hails from South Korea. This song is by a duo which goes by the name Akdong Musician. Both members are actually siblings, and very young at that. The eldest of the two is only eighteen years old, so talk about talent! This is one the most hauntingly beautiful songs I have heard in a long time. I mean we do hear a lot of slower and more melancholy songs nowadays, but this is one that really stands out to me. And there are so many different elements that make this song the beautiful masterpiece that it is. For starters, the vocals in this song are incredible. I had no idea that people so young could posses this kind of power and emotional content. There is this back and forth between the male and female vocals during the main verses of the song, and harmonies featuring the vocal anguish and sweetness of being helpless and hopeful at the same time. Akdong Musician really makes you feel the song and what they are trying to convey. I don't speak or u...

Thirty Seconds to Mars and 28 Days Later

Image
Today I have some darker music for you. This is by one of my favorite bands of all time- Thirty Seconds to Mars. This is a band that has consistently delivered incredible music even in the wake of evolving their sound. I won't lie, I am mildly in love with Jared Leto. I mean the man is extremely gifted and versatile. From producing music to creating music videos to being one of the most low key-brilliant actors of our generation, Jared Leto is a man who expresses things so well. This song is one of my favorites by the band. It doesn't use the conventional band instruments as much as it does use synths and keyboards and strings. This is a song that is weirdly gut wrenching and pulls at your heart. But not in a sad and romantic. This is more of a personal battle, a fight with yourself, and that anguish is what we really get to feel and hear in this song. And we get that feeling the most from Jared Leto's vocals. In this song, we get a more raw version of his vocals, a sound t...
