Coldplay and Mark Ronson

Today I have a very new song for you, one that is probably sweeping the globe because of who created the song. We all know and love this band dearly. This is a band that has been there for us for over 10 years, a band that has made us cry and feel at home and get to that special place. This is a band that I always turn to when it is raining or I'm feeling down. It is also a band that I know I can listen to when I want something happy and inspiring and something that takes me to this other state of being. This band is one that will always be my favorite, even if they may be retiring soon. Coldplay is a band that has spoken to everyone, a band that has appealed to all audiences and all kinds of music listeners. And guess what, they dropped a new single! This song is unlike any of the other sounds Coldplay has given us. And that is one of the things I adore about Coldplay. Their sound is constantly evolving. Every album has a different musical theme and style. Ghost Stories was a darker, more tranquil, and moving album. Based on this first single, I have a feeling this is going to be an album that goes off with a bang. This is going to be a fun album, something that is a mix of all the stories Coldplay has to tell. Because this is their last album, I believe Coldplay is going to give us something to smile and laugh and cry and swoon over. This song is such a cool song to listen and jam out to. This is what a song would sound like if rock and funk had a kid. We get a lot of Coldplay's rock elements, especially with the guitar melody. And then we get that nice low bass funk sound from the bass guitar. This is such a huge step away from what we normally get with Coldplay, but I really like it. This is an upbeat and summery jam, something that I definitely have caught myself head bopping and dancing to. This is a sound that emanates freedom and happiness, something that makes you want to go out and do something wild and fun and something you normally wouldn't do. I have to say, Jonny Buckland absolutely nailed the guitar work in this song. Not that he hasn't before, but this song is different. In this song, his guitar creates this incredibly happy and peppy rock melody. He picks at each string rather than strumming, and that creates a sharper and more staccato sound. Which plays so well when we add Guy Berryman's bass guitar work. While the main guitar is creating that rock sound, the Guy Berryman is in the guy who creates that really nice funk sound. He works the bass guitar so damn well, making sure that we get that more forefront bass sound. And then of course, Wil Champion's percussion just struts around, knowing how incredibly well done they are.  I can't get enough of this song to be quite honest! Again, I can't stress enough how wonderfully different this song is! A lot of people don't like the fact that Coldplay has taken this new direction. But keep an open mind! Every great rock band has gone through a dance phase, and now it is Coldplay's turn! Come into listening to this without any expectation as to what it is, and see how it rocks your world. Today's instrumental song is by Mark Ronson. This song is definitely one of the most popular songs we have heard in the past couple of years, but I can't deny how incredibly well done Mark Ronson's production is. He takes a wonderfully modern spin on the older Motown and funk style. There is this awesome combination of electronic work and that old school groove. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
