Nat King Cole & Natalie Cole and Swing Shift

Image
Today I have a little more Christmas music for you. I'm going to try and keep this one a little bit shorter because let's be honest, you guys are busy with the holidays! Today's Christmas song is by the famous Nat King Cole and features his daughter Natalie King Cole. This song is absolutely lovely and the two of them have beautiful harmonies. Like her father, Natalie King Cole has a superb swing voice and it has the ability to sweep you off your feet. I wish I could sing like her. Nat King Cole makes us feel so cozy and happy with his warm voice and smooth tone. This song has been done many times, yet this version is still my favorite. This is the time of the year where swing and jazz and older music styles are so incredibly perfect for every occasion. This song is so beautifully sung and makes me feel so wonderful. Today's instrumental song is a version of an incredibly popular Christmas song by Swing Shift. This song is one of those really jolly songs. This song is d...

Brenda Lee and Mariah Carey

Today's Christmas themed song is out of the late 50's. This song is the pop culture take on Christmas. Now we hear a lot of songs like that, the songs that pop icons sing that are generally related to Santa and presents. This is the original pop culture Christmas song and it is my favorite. This song is an absolute classic and for good reason. It has that happy and light hearted nature that makes it so much fun to listen to. A lot of people have covered this song, but this version is still the best one. What I love about this version is that it has a mix of original rock n roll and big band. You can really hear the electric guitar in this song, and it has that suave Elvis Presley style. What I find so incredible is that Brenda Lee recorded this song when she was 13 years old. Brenda Lee has such a mature voice and I think that the juxtaposition between a young person and an older voice is perfect for Christmas. It is a holiday that never grows old despite how many years it has ...

Celtic Woman and Tchaikovsky

Day 2 of the build up to Christmas! Today I have more conventional and popular Christmas songs. These are the kinds of songs you only associate with this time of year. These songs are iconic and classic when it comes to the holiday season. This first song has been re-created so many times and each time, it sounds very different. There have been many interpretations and takes on this song, all of which are beautiful in their own respect. This rendition which I have chosen has been done by Celtic Woman. I love this rendition so much because it is very traditional and more like the original. When I hear this song, I always think of the very orchestral and choir-ish sound that it has. That is what I like the most about this song. So in choosing the Celtic Woman version, we get to hear that powerful orchestral sound. In my eyes, this song is supposed to have this sense of power to it, and that kind of strength is only something you can hear in an orchestra. This song is so very popular but ...

Michael Buble and A Charlie Brown Christmas

Today, I hope you are all excited because I have some amazingly wonderful Christmas music for you! Yay! Today marks five days before Christmas, and I wanted to do something like a buildup to the fantastic holiday. Now with Christmas, there are so many ways in which people observe the holiday, understand the holiday, and celebrate it. So, with these next five days I am going to bring you music which explores the different kinds of Christmas that are seen. Today, I have the very romanticized view of Christmas. This is what everyone expects or wants out of Christmas. The roaring fire, cozy living room, hot chocolate, and a soft snowfall outside onto a blanket of puffy and cloudy white snow. This is truly about creating that Winter Wonderland and all the warm feelings that are associated with Christmas. Michael Buble has one of the most wonderful Christmas albums of all time, and this song is off that album. What makes Michael Buble's renditions so incredible phenomenal is that he keep...

Kaskade & Neon Trees and Benny Benassi

Today I have some dance/house music. This song is by Kaskade, but is really interesting because it includes a rock group-Neon Trees. I thought the vocal tone matched so well with the beat and feel of the song. This song has the intensity of a rock group mixed with the energy of house music. It also has the deeper, more powerful bass to it which makes this song so much more brilliant! I think this song turned out so incredibly well! Kaskade gives this song a little bit more intensity than what you would expect from this song. Neon Trees is known for being a band that likes to traipse on the lighter and more carefree side of music. But with Kaskade's work, we get something that is edgier and grittier. There is something more raw and intense and rough about this song that makes Neon Trees sound like a badass band. This is a song that you would get into a fight with like in films, or for more realistic people, boxing/kickboxing or martial arts. This is a song that has a heavy beat that...

Kygo and The Battle Of Five Armies

Today I have some great music for you. As most of you know, this week marked the premiere of the final Hobbit movie, the last of an era of J. R. R. Tolkien's wonderful world. As someone who is proud to call herself both a nerd and geek, this is a bittersweet moment. The glorious joy of watching a movie as sick and wicked as this, but also the idea that there won't be anymore is enough to confuse anyone. Luckily, a lot of the movies we watch can be remembered through the music that is played in them. I have to say, The Hobbit trilogy is one that has a phenomenal soundtrack. Some of you may know that Ed Sheeran wrote a song for the trilogy. It is an amazing song, no doubt about it. But did you know that there is a remix that is equally as incredible? That is right, today's song is by Kygo, who has remixed the music from The Hobbit. And it is mind blowing. Yes, Kygo pretty much only remixes songs, but considering how they are all brilliant beyond belief, it doesn't matter ...

Ella Eyre and Clean Bandit

Today I have some music for you by Ella Eyre. This is a girl who is not well known but should be because she has so much talent. Ella Eyre not only creates her own incredible songs, but is one of the best collaborators I have heard. She has worked with groups ranging in style from Bastille to Rudimental. Honestly I think that is extremely impressive. Something about the way Ella Eyre works and the way she sings is so fierce. Not the stereotypical Beyonce fierce, but something that is truly strong and bold. Ella Eyre has a sound that is really different from a lot of what we hear nowadays. This song is pretty percussion heavy, but I like that a lot. There is a mix of percussion, from drums to tambourines, to piano melodies. I think the part of the song that first made me fall in love with it, is during the first chorus. The first part of the first chorus is her singing with the piano and some drum beats, but then gives way to the next verse of the chorus where so many things get thrown ...
