OneRepublic and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Today I have new music for you by a band that has been a bit quiet. OneRepublic has released a new album that is nothing short of beautiful. This album is moving and striking and food for your soul. This new album is something that is wholly OneRepublic, something that embodies their style in a great way. This is a band that purposely delivers music that speaks to the soul. They carefully craft each word and melody, each beat and note, to create a masterpiece that speaks to our emotions and deepest thoughts. OneRepublic has this wonderful power of being able to understand and appeal to our darkest thoughts, our silent secrets, and unspoken feelings. OneRepublic somehow is able to understand it all, which is something so incredible rare to hear in a band. This song is an embodiment of that special magic that OneRepublic has. I have to say, this is one of my absolute favorite songs by them, and is my favorite from the album. This song is all about the push and pull of love and pain. Two emotions that we feel stronger than any other emotions. Ryan Tedder takes this song and turns it into a musical masterpiece. Ryan Tedder has to be one of the most genius and talented artists I have heard. Aside from being a beautiful vocalist, he is a producer, musician, song writer, and composer. And we get to hear a culmination of all these skills with this song, one that he created with the rest of OneRepublic. When Ryan Tedder sings, we can feel every lyric, every word. This song is very vocally demanding, but Ryan Tedder takes the song and makes it his own. We hear the pain through his voice, the gritty emphasis on certain lyrics in particular. The way he can turn that roughness into a beautiful falsetto and then come back down again puts us on this emotional roller coaster which parallels the meaning of the song. This song has a bit of a raw and underproduced vibe, meaning we get to focus on Ryan Tedder's voice. These vocals are the focus of the song. They tell a story of emotion and loss and love in a way that the instruments wouldn't have been able to justify. Having a song that has the instrumental background focus more on providing an anthemic sound is what allows Ryan Tedder's voice shine bright. However, I cannot discredit the rest of the band! The musicians in the band do a fantastic job of tailoring their musicality to the tone of the song. Fluctuating between loud and soft moments, crescendo-ing into a limitless and warm sound, while also bringing the sound back to Earth. The musicians in OneRepublic play based off feelings. They play to the feelings we all have, the soul food that we need. The intense ballad is accompanied by pounding drums and an anthemic chorus that takes us to another state of being. OneRepublic is a band that does a heart warming job of making their music be both ethereal and earthy. There is this feeling as if you can soar through the skies and be lost in euphoria. And then there is this grounding sense of emotional ties and the need to be around those you care about. Their ability to craft a sound that stretches your heart and soul from the firm ground to the limitless sky is something that is indescribable. It is brilliant and wonderful, marvelous and awe inspiring. It is beautiful and humble, and a reminder of our ability and desire to live life to the fullest. This is a sound that I have only ever heard from OneRepublic. It is what makes them stand out from every other band out there, every other pop artist. This song about healing is one that makes us feel complete and part of something greater. And it is one of the most poignant things to listen to. Today's instrumental song is from one of my favorite movies of all time. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a wonderful independent film that really spoke to me. This is a movie that I recommend to everyone, especially millennials. This is a movie that speaks to us in a way that very few films can. It praises adventures and seeking out answers. It thrives on being different and realizing there is more to life than the standard course of it all. This movie was so beautifully done, and the score is no exception to that. Not only was the soundtrack phenomenal, but the score itself reflected such beauty. The score sings of living and going on adventures. It speaks to the soul and provides us with a calm inspiration. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
