The Glitch Mob and The Peaky Blinders
Today I have some interesting music for you, in the sense that you may find it a little bit quirky. Today's first song is by the ever incredible band by the name The White Stripes. Now The White Stripes is probably one of the most iconic bands of the late 90's and early 00's. This is a band that everyone seems to know, even if they have never heard a song by them. It is just one of those names that you know, regardless of what kind of music you listen to. What I like about this band is the blending of grunge rock and blues rock to create songs that have some really great bass guitar work in accompaniment with heavy drum work. The White Stripes tends to ditch the dependence on the electric guitar in favor of the lower tones and deep thrum of the bass guitar. This is a song that makes you automatically feel like a badass and a rebel. That is one of the things that The White Stripes can do to you-make you feel like the coolest and most suave person in the world. This song just oozes that original kind of swagger. Not what people consider "swag," but true gangster swagger. This song makes me feel like a complete boss in the world around me. It makes me feel almost a bit powerful as well. I'm telling you, that bass guitar is mighty powerful. This song is actually about learning how to deal with the dysfunctional world that we all seem to find ourselves trapped in at some point in time. While most people would not consider music like this, music that sounds like this something that is taken to heart, I think this song is one that everyone can relate to. Now, today I am taking this song one step forward by posting a version of this song that goes in a very wicked direction. This remix is done by The Glitch Mob, and my oh my is this something of a treat. The Glitch Mob is already known to be somewhat of orchestral geniuses in the world of electronic music. Their style is one that brings elements of stringed instruments and orchestral motifs and blends them with heavy electronic sounds. When watching The Glitch Mob perform live, we see the way they bring the music together with both live instruments and programmed sound, and it really is a sight to see. With this version, The Glitch Mob takes the original instrumentation of the song puts an electronic overlay on those notes. During the chours, we get a heavy electronic drop but still retain some of that sick guitar sound. I actually love what The Glitch Mob does with the bass guitar line in this remix. That bass line is the most notable part of the song, and The Glitch Mob takes that line, amplifies its strength and gives it a bit more reverb so it has this ferocious strength. This remix is legitimately one of the sickest rock remixes I have ever heard. I mean I feel like this would be absolutely epic in a battlefield scene of a movie. I will say, the only misgiving I have about this song is the electronic solo that happens to bridge the end of the song. Not exactly my taste, but the overall song is just too good to deny! The White Stripes were genius with their music and while I am sad to say they don't make music anymore, I can say that binge listening to their albums is perfectly acceptable! Today's instrumental song is from the BBC television show, Peaky Blinders. I am absolutely hooked on this show! I started it only a few days ago and have not been able to stop watching it. This is a show that is a historical crime drama, filled with mystery and intrigue and gangsters. I think it definitely makes it even better since it is set during the 1920's. It really brings the kind of "gangster" that I really really love. The cunning, sly, ruthless, and powerful aura that seems to surround the gangsters of the 1920's is alluring and a bit seductive. This song is by the band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and is definitely a quirky song. But this is the kind of song that sums up what the show is like so wonderfully. It captures the essence of the story incredibly well and it also captures the main character in a way that you wouldn't really expect. This song is just so weirdly perfect to capture the entirety of the show. I highly recommend you all go and give this show a try because it is absolutely phenomenal!
