Young The Giant and The Naked and Famous

Today we are continuing more with the ACL festival lineup. To start the day off, we have some music by Young the Giant. Today's music is going to be on the rock end of things, which is a nice change to have from what I have been focusing my posts on lately. The band recently released a new album, and I really like it. This is a very good album because of the subject matter. Young the Giant decides to tackle some of the biggest issues we are facing today. This song, in particular, is about immigration and finding a place in the world. This is actually one of my favorite songs off their new album. I personally feel like this song has so much to offer to the listener. There is this rock energy at the base, but built on top of that is a very vulnerable feeling of what love is and how much love means to the singer. The song opens with this youthful and energy and gives way to the main chorus melody on the keys. The lyrics in this song tell such a wonderful story, one that many people can relate to here in the US.  This album as a whole is a great evolutionary step for Young the Giant. Shedding the mellow and wispy tones, Young the Giant takes on something that is a little fiercer and even a bit edgy. This side of Young the Giant hones in on that idea of push and pull and a sense of injustice. Young the Giant finds a way to create their own sound that is reminiscent of what Coldplay and Muse would sound like if they mashed up. I really do enjoy hearing this more aggressive side of Young the Giant and appreciate even more how progressive the lyrics have become. Today's second song is by The Naked and Famous. They haven't put out new music in a while, but when they first came out, I was all over their music. Their sound is very distinct and very unique. There is a sense of organized chaos with their music. Sometimes there is a sense of control on the way their music sounds, and sometimes it sounds deliberately haphazard. I kind of like that, though. It reminds me of spontaneity and what it is like to not always know what is about to happen next. This is another fantastic band, one worth listening to! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
