Robin Schulz and Duke Dumont
Today I have some really nice and chill house for you. I noticed that a lot of the electronic music I have been posting has been more melodic and R&B oriented, so I decided to change things up a bit and return to house music, because who doesn't love some fun beats? Robin Schulz is a house artist who is definitely on the lesser known end of the scale, but is starting to make some headway into the more mainstream and popular artist realm. Robin Schulz has a really cool style attached to his music. He likes to use electronic guitar riffs to spice his songs up, which I thought was really cool considering not many people really do that. But while this song does use a little bit of that guitar work, it is much more minimal in favor of more melodic and synth oriented sounds. Now one thing that Robin Schulz does that throws us in for a loop is the fact that he totally abandons his signature chord progression. I mean totally drops it and leaves it in the wind. This sound in general is a total change from what we are used to getting from him. Normally his songs are a little bit tropical and funky, with those unique chords, and a bit more hype. But with this song we get a more atmospheric and ambient kind of sound. This song is more ethereal and the lyrics are a lot more abstract and up for interpretation. Now when you have a song that sounds like this, it is really cool to have lyrics that match that vibe. And I would like to think that this does. The lyrics and vocals are done by Disciples, and they really take the time to make sure that this is a song that is ambiguous and open for our own understanding. This is a song that is heavily driven by both the instrumental and lyrical content. There is a stylistically mature combination of groove and melody, though I think this song favors melody more. Robin Schulz has created a song that you could hear anywhere from a hip clothing store to a runway to a club. I for one find this song to be a really awesome jam, something that I would want to listen to at night while I am dancing in my room or at a club with the lights low and dancing in my own world. Either way, this song has all the catchiness and appeal of a pop song while not being a pop song. And that is another reason why I love Robin Schulz's work. It doesn't follow that formulaic method of the mainstream pop world. This song has character and flow, with a chorus that is nothing short of engaging and charming. Today's instrumental song is by Duke Dumont. Now I love this DJ so much! He has this really cool mix of transcendent deep house and tropical house. And of course, this is one of the best combinations! This song has the cool and tranquil suave sound of deep house, while having the more light hearted and melodic waves of tropical house. Duke Dumont is a hugely underrated DJ, but I am glad I get to share his work with you guys! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
