Cricket World Cup

OKAY today is such a big day in the world of sports for pretty much the entire Eastern Hemisphere. Why, you may ask? Because the cricket world cup occurred last night and was pretty much awesome. For those of you who don't really know what cricket is, it is one of the biggest sports worldwide. Sadly, America has not really gotten into cricket, but decided to create baseball instead. Baseball is very much based on how cricket is played. Cricket is played with a bowler which is similar to what a pitcher is, and a batsman with the remaining players as "fielders" of sorts. Cricket is a long game, I can't deny it. But it is quite the game, and cricket matches can be so much fun, especially when people get all riled up. But in honor of the Cricket World Cup, I have to play some music from the teams that were up against each other. This year, the contenders were India and Pakistan. AND INDIA WON!! Of course this was super exciting for me, and I thought some nice celebratory Indian music was in order. This first song is the Indian national anthem because I have to pay homage to my mother country. This second song is from the movie Lagaan. This movie is actually about cricket underdogs, kind of like the hundreds of football movies that Hollywood has. This movie is THE cricket movie. When you ask any Bollywood movie watcher about a cricket movie, this is the first thing they will tell you about. This movie is one of the greatest Hindi movies to come out within the past 20 years. Everything about this movie is stellar. The acting is phenomenal, the story line inspiring, and the songs are lively and energetic and fun. This is a movie that is about the game, but also about what makes it so special to India. Whether or not this is based on a true story, cricket has been a huge sport for India since its colonization by the British. This is a game that we made ours, and it is a game that defines us in the world of sports. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
