Keeping It Fresh

As some of you know, this past weekend held one of the biggest music festivals in the US and the world. Ultra Fest in Miami is one of the biggest electronic music festivals and holy shitballs was it good! I watched the livestream of some of the sets and was totally blown away by how crazy some of the sounds got and how incredibly sick each set was. All of my favorite electronic artists were there (except Avicii...I hope you feel better and that surgery went well) and everything that was mixed, performed, and made up was just plain awesomeness. Pure, unaltered, genius, masterstrokes. So this first song is a song by MaRLo, which was remixed by Armin Van Buuren for Ultra. Today's song is by an artist know as The Weekend. This is just such a good song. His voice is so beautiful even though the song itself is very dark. Which makes this song even more powerful, the contrast between his sweet voice and dark depth of the lyrics. I love this song and I love how chilled out this song is as well. Ellie Goulding did a cover of this song which is pretty good, especially the remixed version. But this, this is just incredible. Today's instrumental song is one that I am really excited to share with you. It is by Henry Krinkle and is one of the most chilled out songs I have ever heard. Some gave it its own genre-chillstep. I think that's a great name because this song is so chill. I love everything about this song, from the soft percussion to the smooth synth work. Today's song is by one of my favorite bands of all time-Anberlin. I am so sad to say that they have decided to move forward from Anberlin. However, I am not going to let that stop me from loving Anberlin any less and they will always be at the top of my list. This song in particular has a really good feel to it, especially with the way the guitar meshes with the vocals. Everything about this song pieces together in such a perfect but unique way. This feel good song is so great for any time and any feel. Today's instrumental song is from the Dark Knight Rises, one of the most epic movies and movie trilogies of all time. Today's song is an absolutely beautiful song by the biggest boy band in the world right now. I won't lie, I did have my own not so great opinions about One Direction, but their new album Midnight Memories is absolutely incredible. You can really hear the maturity in their voices and it is quite easy to hear how they have evolved in such a short time. They don't have that typical boy band sound as much and this song exemplifies that amazingly. This song is absolutely poignant and moving and just heart wrenching. The melodies and harmonies in this song adds such depth and experience to the song, making it such a wonderfully brilliant song. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Cloud Atlas. This song has so many emotional movements even though it is a short piece. I have to say, this is one of the best movie soundtracks I have ever heard. Absolutely beautiful. It has been such a long time since I have posted a cultural song. So today's song is a song by Luis Enrique, and I have to say, it is such a great song! This has a very Latin American feel with the trumpets, and that specific percussion beat. But it also has a very tropical feel to it, and that tropical feel mixed with a Latin American background makes quite a good combo. I really like this song, especially the chorus, and if you understand Spanish, you will hear how great the lyrics and how meaningful they are. Today's instrumental song is from the movie The Mask Of Zorro. This song is also a very typical Latin song, especially since it meant as a tango song. Today I have some slower, more acoustic sounds for you. This first song is a more popular one by Ben Rector, and its one of my favorites by him. This song has so much emotion poured into the writing, composition, and melodies. His voice is so soothing and is able to really make you feel what he is feeling. I love how simply moving and beautiful and calming this song is. Today's instrumental song is from the movie French Kiss. I love the harp work that is happening and the soft wind solos. Today I have a pretty awesome song brought to you by Far East Movement. I really like how this group has evolved their sound while also keeping a unique, trademark sound. This song in particular has a really good trap twist to it which I find pretty sick. The beat is really great and it works well with the stylistic nature of this song. I think its is so fresh to see an artist going out of their normal comfort song while still incorporating their original style and not including what is considered "popular." While trap is becoming more popular, the way Far East Movement handles this song is very unique. Today's instrumental song is the instrumental version of one of my favorite Kendrick Lamar songs.
