Sonu Nigam and Hachiko

Today I have some more Indian music for you. I know I posted a Bollywood song two days ago, but I have not been able to get this song out of my head. This song comes from a very short era around 2006 of Bollywood music that took this beautiful, contemporary route. You can really hear that in this song. The thing that made this short span of time so special in terms of music, was that everything was very heartfelt and had an older twist to the way things sounded. A lot of the music composed had this beautiful call and response kind of thing with both the lyrics and the instrumentals of the song. In this song, we get that call and response with the piano and the flute, which I find absolutely gorgeous. The characteristic of this time period of music is the inclusion of the piano in a lot of songs. But it is something I am in love with. The piano is an instrument that has been used in so many different settings, from classical to jazz to modern pop. But hearing the piano in a Bollywood so...

OneRepublic and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Today I have some great music for you by OneRepublic. Now this song is actually one that has gotten really popular and hit the charts pretty well. But the reason I am blogging about this song is so different from the reason it made it on the charts. For them, the song is one that is just catchy and fun and free. But there is a special reason as to why I am blogging about this song. This past year, I have seen a lot and done a lot. And recently I came to this mental clearing about life. And the message of this song, the lyrics, describe that perfectly. You see, I finally got out into the world and feel like I am seeing it for the fist time. I hunger to travel and to see everything that I can. I ache to go from places like Paris and Rio di Janiero to the Asian Steppes and the African savanna. There is so much wonder and beauty and majesty that this world has to offer. And I want to experience every single one of them. For everyone, "living life" has different meanings. For some...

Arijit Singh and Advantageous

Image
Today I have some music along the lines of emotionally beautiful. This first song comes from the Bollywood film Ashiqui 2. This is a movie that is a sequel to another Bollywood film that was released in the 90s. Not only was it one of the biggest blockbuster films, the soundtrack was positively splendid. This is the most famous song off the soundtrack, and I think it will be quite clear as to why once you hear it. The playback singer Arijit Singh is the man behind the vocals in the song, and let me tell you, his music is some of the most moving that I have heard in a long while from Bollywood. What I like about his voice is that is soft and low, but has a little bit of a gravelly sound to it. This makes him sound even more vulnerable than he does with just listening to the lyrics. And this song is all about feeling the vulnerability of love, and all the pain and hardships that come with life and being able to maintain that love. This is definitely a heartbreaking song, and is also one ...

Jessie J and Little Mix

Image
Today I have some music for you by an artist that hasn't really been in the spotlight for a while. Jessie J is an absolutely incredible vocalist. She has a lot of power and passion and ferocity with the way she sings and with her voice in general. The thing about Jessie J is that she fits into so many categories yet belongs to none. She is a very accomplished soul and R&B singer for sure. Her voice is quite amazing for that kind of music. But she also stands out from all of those other female vocalists because of her style of singing. Jessie J employs the use of melisma techniques. This basically means that while she is singing syllables or singular words, her voice traverses over a bunch of different notes in succession. And that is something we hear off the bat with Jessie J's music. Each song features at least one melisma sequence and usually her songs are sung completely with this method. The thing is though, she pulls if off so well. Her voice and music and personality...

George Ezra and Caspian

Today I have some music for you by one of my favorite artists out of England at the moment. George Ezra came into the spotlight recently, and I think it is quite understandable as to why. He is a special artist in many ways. For starters, he is only 21 years old and has the low, sexy voice of an older man. But the thing is, he is so damn smooth with his voice as well. It is beautiful and a little rough, deep but very warming and cozy. When I hear George Ezra's music, I think of the cozy warmth of a fire place and snuggling up to a guy on a cold winter day. It envelops you in this feeling of home. And I love that so much. It is so hard to find that in artists these days, a time when a lot of music is revolved around electronic work and pop genres. But George Ezra stays in the realm of folk, blues, and some rock. But the thing about George Ezra that makes him so spectacular is his ability to easily switch between a high paced song, to something more mellow and contemplative and calmi...

Adrian Lux and Oblivion

Image
Today I have a song for you by an electronic artist that I am absolutely in love with. Adrian Lux has such an incredible sound to his music. There is always a certain feeling that he evokes with the melodies and harmonies within the song. This song is particular has a darker energy to it, but it is one of those songs that makes you want to explore the darker depths. The first time I heard this song was actually on Teen Wolf. I don't quite remember when they used this song, but I can clearly imagine what kind of scene they would have used this song for. It makes me think of either a dance or when something intense is about to happen. I personally find this an awesome song to workout to, especially running. It has that deep thrum that forces you onwards. Today's instrumental song comes from the movie Oblivion. I have to say, this soundtrack truly is a masterpiece. I highly recommend that you all listen to it at some point because it will blow you away. I hope you enjoy the music ...

Adam Lambert & Tritonal and Demi Lovato

Image
Today I have some new music for you by the greatest singer to ever come off the show American Idol. A lot of people didn't really take Adam Lambert seriously until he really made them stop and listen. Adam Lambert has such an incredible voice, one that is so strong and powerful and positively energizing. Adam Lambert does have a higher pitched voice in comparison to a lot of other male singers, but that just makes him fit in with all the rockers of old. The classic rockers, ones that belong to bands like Queen. Which makes sense considering he was chosen to go on tour with Queen and fill in as the lead singer. Which is such an honor and testament to the vocal ability that Adam Lambert has. One cannot simply sing one style to sing with Queen and sing their songs. There has to be grit, gentleness, passion, and fire. With this song, Adam Lambert's voice gets tackled by the electronic group Tritonal. What makes Adam Lambert's voice so perfect for any genre is the fact that he h...
