Keeping It Fresh

Today I have music for you by a band called The Pretty Reckless. I am not going to lie, the first thing that really caught my attention was the vocals in the song. It is really hard to find female vocalists who can really pull off that hard rock sound. Most female voices don't have the scratchy, edgy, and gritty voice that Taylor Momsen has. I love her voice for that! It sounds like a very mature rock voice despite the fact that she is pretty young. Her voice is very reminiscent of Joan Jett, a woman who has a kick ass voice and is one of the queens of hard rock.  She also kind of reminds me of the vocalist from Dead Sara. The thing about these vocals is that it fits so damn well with a song like this. And what is even more impressive is that she actually sounds like this live. Today I have some music for you by a punk band that is slowly starting to gain traction, but I have a feeling that they may hit the ground running! Death From Above 1979 is a really cool band because it has a history that is unlike most bands today. They broke up for a period of time after being together for five years. Normally when bands break up though, they don't get back together. However, Death From Above 1979 id reform and has released a new album. Today's song is from that new album and it is a pretty sick song! Fun fact, this song was based on a train wreck that did happen before the age of cellphones and other devices like it. What made this the choice wreck was that no one died. Anyway, when it comes to the song, there are a couple of cool things that mesh together which usually wouldn't. Today I have a really hot song by Cash Cash. I am not going to lie, I hadn't heard of these guys till they had their big radio hit, but ever since then I have been an active listener of Cash Cash. This song is an awesome example as to why. Cash Cash knows how to incorporate different aspects of electronic music while maintaining a good sound. A lot of electronic artists like the video game noises and bleeps and blips that come with some songs. Cash Cash uses all of these things while also sticking to the conventional music programming. This is one of those rare songs that features video game music that I don't find annoying. Cash Cash balances all the different styles and splices them to fit in certain points in the song. This song also features other instruments as well like a tambourine and actual drums. I like that a lot because it shows versatility in the way that Cash Cash produces music. Today I have a new song for you by Calvin Harris. One of the things I love about him is that he really knows how to pick great vocalists. Now electronic songs in general have amazing vocalists. That is another thing to commend electronic music for having other than having lots of energy. This song features the vocals of John Newman. I love his voice so much because it has a slight accent to it, but still maintains an incredible amount of soul. Calvin Harris is a phenomenal artist in his own respect, just as John Newman is. So when they come together to make a song, you can only expect the best. What Calvin Harris does in this song is really nice because he doesn't fill the song up with random electronic noises and beats. This song is very systematically done to create a certain kind of energy and certain amount of energy. John Newman lends his soulful voice to help create that atmosphere as well. Today I have a song for you by the band known as Ima Robot. Many of you will recognize this song because it is used in the show Suits. Disclaimer, Suits is a wonderfully fantastic show and I highly recommend you go watch it. Anyway, this song has a really cool and suave feel to it. It has that artsy urban grunge to it which I really like. It is a different way of performing rock music and takes you back to the 90's style of music. This song has a really cool charm to it because a lot of the song falls on the support of the bass guitar over the drums. The bass guitar serves as a secondary percussion to the rest of the instrumentals. It is actually kind of awesome how simple the instruments are in this song because when you bring the together you hear a really sick song. The main instruments are of course the bass guitar, tambourine, drums, and keyboard. Nothing else makes an appearance and I like it that way. The music in this song is so structured but so laid back at the same time....

Today I have music for you by a band called The Shins. The first time I heard this song was in a movie trailer. Now the movie itself has not come out, but this song really got me. This is one of those songs that makes you think of wide open skies and sunsets on the beach. It reminds me of scenes from movies where people are actually having a good time and are living life to the fullest. They are with family, exploring the world, and learning more about themselves. This song has a really good sound to it for a lot of reasons. For one, this song uses the conventional rock instruments to make the background audio. You can clearly hear the guitar, drums, keyboards, and synth. Each sound is so distinct but they come together so well. One thing that I thought was kind of cool was the fact that the chorus is what we hear at the beginning. Today I have some music that ventures into a different realm of music. Today, I have music for you from the world of K-Pop, and more importantly the world of TVXQ. Now, sometimes I feel that K-Pop has many stereotypes attached to it, but not all of these stereotypes are true. For example, this is the first song I had ever heard from the world of K-Pop and totally loved it! I honestly don't know why it took me this long to post a song from this side of music. This song has a really edgy beat to it and the whole song flows really well. Not to mention the fact that they all have great voices. Though this song is older, I still think it is an awesome song! The beats are dirty and the music definitely has this exciting and edgy sound to it. This song is kind of a mix of a dance song and R&B which I think sounds freaking awesome in Korean. Even though I don't understand the words to the song, they way TVXQ sings and the stylization of the music give me an idea as to what the song...
